Trump political groups raised $82M in first half of 2021

Fundraising for the former president was distributed across three committees. Save America, a leadership PAC he started shortly after losing the 2020 elections; Make America Great Again PAC (his old campaign account that was converted into a PAC in this year); and a joint fundraising organization, which sends its funds the other two organizations.Leader PACs such as Save America have a limit of $5,000 per donor per year. However, there are no restrictions on how these groups can spend their money. Trump has not spent much from the fund this year, but he could use it to pay for travel and events, advisers and other political activities. One restriction is that the leadership PAC funds can't be used for financing a presidential campaign.Trump gave his blessing earlier this year to Make America Great Again Action super PAC. This super PAC is permitted to raise unlimited amounts and spend unlimited money. The former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is the organization's leader. He has already made substantial investments to support Trump-endorsed candidates in two special elections. According to a disclosure filed Saturday night, the super PAC raised just $5 million between its creation in March and June.Trump temporarily slowed down his fundraising efforts after the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot, but resumed them this spring. According to someone familiar with the matter, Trump is expected to use a large portion of the money he has raised before the 2022 midterm elections in which the former president will play an active part.Trump released a statement thanking his supporters, saying that he was grateful for their support.Trump has repeatedly urged his supporters to send their money through Save America, even though it was at the expense Republican Party campaign organizations. Trump stated that Save America was the only way to donate to Trump-aligned candidates during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in January. Trump's attorneys wrote cease-and-desist notices to the party committees in the following weeks, asking them to stop using his name for fundraising appeals. The party ignored the request.Trump's political operation sends out daily text messages of fundraising to supporters. Many of these texts repeat his unfounded claims about the election being stolen. Trump has spent months praising election audits in Arizona. However, a person who is familiar with Trump's campaign finances stated that no of his groups donated money to those efforts to protect their independence.
