New Orleans Saints reach one-year deal with RB Devonta Freeman

METAIRIE (La.) New Orleans Saints strengthened their position by agreeing to a one year deal with Devonta Freeman, former Atlanta Falcons runningback.Drew Rosenhaus, Freeman's agent confirmed the deal to ESPN's Adam Schefter, after Freeman tried out on Saturday for the Saints.Alvin Kamara (the Saints' veteran backfield leader) and Latavius Murray (the Saints' training camp participant) are the current Saints' backfield. It's unclear why they felt the need to increase depth at the position.The Saints are the only team that appreciates Freeman's ability to make an impact. They played against him for so many years in the NFC South. Freeman has been the running back that gained the most yards in scrimmage against New Orleans in the last decade (691 yards rushing, 319 receiving yards and seven touchdowns).Freeman was also a Saints quarterback Jameis Winston's teammate at Florida State. They won the 2013 national title together. Freeman will now be with Saints coach Sean Payton. He once apologized for letting emotions get the better of him during a 2017 game, when he made a choke gesture towards Freeman.After being released by the Falcons, Freeman, 29 years old was employed part of the last season by the New York Giants as an injured replacement for Saquon barkley. In five games, he had 172 rushing yards with one touchdown. The 5-foot-8, 206-pounder has 4,144 rushing yardage, 2,073 receiving yards, 44 TDs and two Pro Bowl selections.
