Alex Trautwig/MLB photosJed Hoyer, Chicago Cubs general manger, said that while trading stars of the Chicago Cubs franchise, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Craig Kimbrel, was emotionally difficult, it was also "absolutely right" for the organization.Hoyer spoke to reporters after Friday's MLB trade deadline and stated that the deals would allow the Cubs not to undergo a full rebuild but instead a more rapid process.Hoyer stated, "We could either keep these players for two-months and have them compete to win a fourth-place team, or we could do everything in our power reset our farm system. "We have accelerated that in the last 10 or so days."The Cubs received a number top prospects, including outfielders Pete Crowe-Armstrong, Kevin Alcantara and Greg Beichman, as well as pitchers Alexander Vizcaino and Caleb Kilian.Hoyer also broke two Major League contributors, second baseman Nick Madrigal from the Chicago White Sox and reliever Codi HEUER from the Chicago White Sox, in a deal to close Craig Kimbrel. However, there is no guarantee that prospects will come true. The team had to part with All-Stars Bryant, Rizzo and Baez in order to gain valuable assets for the future.Hoyer stated that there are two kinds of currency in the game. There's prospect/talent currency, and there's financial money. We were short of both the last two or three year. Going forward, we have both prospect currency and financial currencies."This is a far cry of previous trade deadlines where the Cubs sent prospects such as Dylan Cease, Dylan Torres, and Eloy Jimenez to extend their championship window. The Cubs sold to their core players and to restart the building of a contender in Chicago.Hoyer stated, "I don’t want anyone feeling like there is an absence of emotion." "Did they decide as a group not to have them for the past two months? We did. But, I still love these guys and hope that people will understand. We created something truly special."
