Houston Texans QB Tyrod Taylor says Deshaun Watson 'absolutely' a resource, not a distraction at training camp

Booger McFarland believes it is time for the Texans trade Deshaun Watson due to the distractions surrounding him, especially his request to be traded. (2:11).HOUSTON -- Deshaun Watson opted not to participate in team drills for the third consecutive day of training camp. Even though Deshaun Watson was positioned off to the side during practice, Tyrod Taylor, the newly acquired quarterback for the Houston Texans, said that Watson's presence is not a distraction.Taylor stated that Watson has been "absolutely” a resource as he learns the new offense and team in Houston.Taylor stated, "Me and Deshaun have become friends." "We have known each other for many years. We have had many conversations off and on the field. Conversations about life, non-football. All of it has been positive and will continue to be so."Watson reported to training camp on Sunday, having requested a trade with the Texans in January. Two months later, Watson was accused of inappropriate behavior and sexual assault in the first of 23 lawsuits. After one of his lawsuits was dropped, he now faces 22 active lawsuits.Taylor signed with the Texans hours before Watson's first lawsuit in March. He said that his mindset has not changed since he signed in Houston and the beginning of training camp.Taylor stated that Taylor's mindset has remained the same since being drafted in 2011. To be positive, competitive, prepared and ready to go every day and make plays.Taylor was the Los Angeles Chargers' starting quarterback last season. However, he only started one game after a team doctor accidentally punctured Taylor's lung while trying to treat a rib injury. In that game, Taylor was replaced by Justin Herbert, the NFL's rookie of the year.Coach David Culley gave Taylor high praise for being the "first guy in the building every morning" as well as being "the last man to leave."Culley stated, "And that's every single day." Culley said, "And that's just his nature. He won't talk about it or discuss it in detail. He goes about his business."Culley stated that the Texans will hold their first padded practice on Tuesday. However, he declined to confirm whether Watson would be wearing pads.
