The Boston Celtics made two moves Friday to reshuffle their roster. They sent out center Tristan Thompson, and brought back three players: center Bruno Fernando and guard Kris Dunn from the Atlanta Hawks, as well as Josh Richardson from Dallas Mavericks.According to sources, Thompson was signed with the Kings. Delon Wright, the Kings' guard, went from Sacramento, Georgia, and Dunn, Fernando, ended up in Boston. Sources said that Boston also received a second-round pick from the 2023 draft.Boston reached a second deal on Friday night, according to sources. The Celtics used the remaining trade exemption created by the deal that sent Gordon Hayward from Boston to the Charlotte Hornets last October, and Richardson was subsequently acquired by Richardson.According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, Boston has 13 fully guaranteed players for next season. They also have $5 million in guaranteed money, which is below the luxury tax line projected at $136.6million for 2021-22, according to Bobby Marks.Next week, the Celtics will be free to make at least one important decision. They may re-sign guard Evan Fournier. Fournier was acquired in March with the remaining Hayward trade exception. This occurred in the hours before the trade deadline. Given their current roster situation Fournier's re-signing would propel the Celtics into the luxury tax for next year.Richardson will be 28 years old in September. This is his fourth team in four years, following back-to-back disappointing seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers, and Mavericks. Richardson was acquired by the Sixers as a sign and trade for Jimmy Butler two years ago. However, Richardson had difficulty finding a home in Philadelphia. Richardson was then traded for Seth Curry in the 2020 NBA draft. He averaged 12.1 points and shot 33 percent from 3-point range, a career low. Also, he went from playing in all of Dallas' regular season games except for three to being on the bench for seven of Dallas' first-round series losses to the Clippers. He even played less than 10 minutes each of those final three games.Richardson had a player option in 2021-22, and he will use that option to stay under contract as part this deal.Thompson, 30 years old, averaged 7.6 points per game and 8.1 rebounds in 54 games last season for the Celtics. This was his first time outside of Cleveland where he spent his first nine NBA seasons. Thompson was no longer needed in Boston due to the arrival of Robert Williams III, a third-year center, and the return of Al Horford, who was part of the Kemba Walker Trade last month. He's now headed to Sacramento to provide Kings insurance at the central spot. Starter Richaun Holmes will be an unrestricted, free agent on Monday.Dunn, 27 years old, saw just four games in the regular season due to multiple injuries. He then saw 33 minutes during five playoff games as Atlanta advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. The former star at Providence College could be a defensive option for the Celtics on the wing if he is healthy.Fernando will be 23 years old in August. He averaged 1.5 points per game last year for Atlanta. He was the 34th selection in the 2019 NBA Draft. In 63 games last season, Wright averaged 10.2 point, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Atlanta has added depth to its backcourt with Wright, who is now playing for his sixth team. He can play alongside Trae Young or as a backup if the Hawks decide to sign him. Both deals involve five players who will be out of work by the end 2021-22 season. Richardson will earn $11.6 million next year; Thompson will make $9.7million; Wright will make $8.5million; Dunn will get just over $5million, and Fernando will make $1.7 million. The Athletic first reported Richardson's acquisition by the Celtics.
