Disney has taken a significant step to protect all its U.S. employees from the virus after renewed concerns over the covid-19 pandemic.AdvertisementThe new Disney mandate follows a lawsuit filed by Scarlet Johansson against the studio over Black Widow. She claims that the studio cheated her by not releasing the film in a limited theatrical release. Disney sent out a statement this afternoon stating that all its employees, both union and salaried, must be vaccinated against covid-19 to ensure their safety as they work through the pandemic. The vaccine will be administered to both on-site employees and remote workers. From now on, only those who have been vaccinated will be hired by Disney. The statement stated that employees who have not been vaccinated but are on-site will have 60 calendar days to complete their protocols. Employees working remotely will also need to submit proof of vaccination before they can return to work. The announcement by Disney comes as a result of similar moves made by other companies, such as Google and Facebook. This is in response to growing concerns over the severity and virality of the delta variant which disproportionately affects the unvaccinated. The company also stated that it made the announcement after consulting with worker unions to determine the best way to address the issue. The safety and well-being for our employees during the pandemic was and remains a top priority at The Walt Disney Company.
