Seth Wenig / AP Khizr KhanOn Friday, President Joe Biden announced that he would nominate Khizr Kahn, the Gold Star father who has been widely criticized by Donald Trump, to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. Khan said that he wasn't surprised by the two-year appointment. Khan said that he was not surprised by the two-year appointment. Khan was speaking to BuzzFeed News about his son Humayun Khan who was a US Army captain and was killed in a suicide bombing in Iraq in 2004. After the attack that claimed the lives of hundreds, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with Valor posthumously. Khan, a Pakistani-born Harvard Law School graduate, is well-known for his powerful speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
