All of humanity!Battery BlazeA Tesla Megapack battery system exploded at an Australian facility on Thursday night.According to Electrek, it is still unclear why the huge energy storage unit caught on fire. However, the fact that the fire occurred while Tesla was running initial battery tests suggests that there are still some issues to be resolved before Tesla can help stabilise Australia's electricity grid. This is something that Australia desperately needs.Tesla has been working for years with Neoen, a French renewable energy company, to build massive energy storage facilities in Australia. In the face of this sudden firestorm, Elon Musk's-led company will have to determine if it is dealing with an unexpected glitch or an inherent flaw that could pose a risk to all of its facilities.JUST IN: Firefighters are on the scene at Moorabool near Geelong, to tackle a battery fire. We do know that the fire was contained to the Megapack and not spread to other Megapacks in the grid, something Tesla had reportedly planned back when it was creating the Megapacks predecessor system. As the fire burns, authorities state that it should be allowed to cool down for between eight and 24 hours. There doesn't seem to be an immediate danger of a huge inferno. Even one Megapack can release a lot of hazardous chemicals into the atmosphere, so authorities issued a toxic air quality alert for five towns.READ MORE: Tesla Megapack set ablaze at Australia's giant battery project [Electrek]Tesla is Building Another Big Battery in AustraliaAdvertisementAdvertisement
