AMD's new Radeon RX 6600 XT offers 1080p RDNA 2 gaming for $379

AMD now offers the entry-level RX6000-series GPU, the $379 RX6600 XT. It is still built on the RDNA 2 architecture, but at a lower price. Customers who don't necessarily require a next-generation 4K gaming system will enjoy the best 1080p gaming experience with this card. The RX6600 XT slots are available at a suggested retail price $379 (AMD doesn't sell its own version). This is even lower than the RX6700 XT, which was released earlier in the year for 1440p gaming. The RX6600 XT has 32 compute units, 8GB GDDR6 RAM, a base clock of 2359 MHz, and a boosted clock of 2589 MHz. It draws 160W. The RX 6900XT top-of the-line has 80 compute units and the RX6700XT 40.AMD's logic is that not all players have the set-up required to run a 4K gaming system. This requires a processor, as well as a display capable of displaying enough pixels. According to IDC research, nearly two-thirds (or more) of all gaming panels sold in 2013 were 1080p panels. However, high-refresh display sales grew 20 times faster than models with lower refresh rates. The RX6600 XT is designed to fit into these trends perfectly. It promises to be able run AAA titles such as Battlefield 5 and Cyberpunk 2077 at high framerates on maximum 1080p settings. This card is not for those who want the most recent GPU, but for customers with an older GPU such as the GTX 1060. It still makes up almost 10% of all graphics cards in Steam's hardware survey, and can have trouble running more recent games. The RX 6600XT is a significant upgrade to AMDs 5000-series cards. It offers 1.4x or more FPS improvements compared with the RX 5600XT and RX5700 for titles such as Assassins Creed: Valhalla and Doom Eternal. AMD claims the card is more powerful than Nvidia's entry-level RTX3060 GPU. This card starts at $329, according to theory.AMD acknowledges that there may be a shortage of supply for the new card. They stated at a press conference that they were trying to obtain supply but that the demand is unprecedented and that supply constraints are real.AMDs usual partners include ASRock, Asus and Biostar. The RX6600 XT will go on sale starting August 11th. Prebuilt systems will also be available sometime in August.
