Biden Seeks to Revive Vaccine Effort With New Rules and Incentives

WASHINGTON - Thursday's President Biden sought to revive the nation's stalled effort to vaccinate Americans against a surging Delta variant coronavirus. He announced new requirements for federal employees to be vaccinated, and asked local and state governments that offer $100 to any person who is willing to receive a shot. The Defense Department was also directed to require coronavirus vaccinations for all military personnel. This would impact almost 1.5 million troops. Many of them have been resistant to a vaccine that is extremely effective against the disease that has claimed more than 600,000.This was his first hint that an order could be issued to active-duty military personnel before any of three federally approved vaccines are fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration. In a speech made from the East Room at the White House, Vice President Biden admitted that the worst viral scourge in a century had returned, threatening public health as well as the economic recovery that is the centerpiece of his presidency.
