Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant not in Chicago Cubs lineup amid trade buzz

Jeff Passan claims that the Cubs will likely trade several key players before the MLB trade deadline. (1:04).CHICAGO -- Social media was abuzz following the Chicago Cubs' Thursday lineup announcement. It did not include stars Kris Bryant or Anthony Rizzo, but manager David Ross stated that no one had been traded. At least, not yet.Ross said before the Cubs' series finale against Cincinnati Reds, "I had this earmarked to Rizz for some time now." "First off-day following the All-Star break. This was normal."It was a long game, with KB [Bryant] moving all over the place and having issues with his legs, that made sense to me.Bryant was able to see his first game of the season at shortstop in Wednesday's loss. He had started the game in left-field. Ross gave Bryant a rest after he endured a ninth-inning of 69 pitches and suffered hamstring issues last week. Both players are eligible for free agency after the season, so both could be traded before Friday's MLB trade deadline. Bryant was tied to the New York Mets and Rizzo could move to the Boston Red Sox.Sometimes, teams on the brink of a trade will sit the player to prevent him from getting hurt. Ross was directly asked if the moves were related the trade deadline. He said, "They aren't." They are available from the bench. When they pinch hit, they'll be rewarded with a round of applause. I don't care if you hate me or blame me. But we must take care of these guys. We need to keep our heads above water.Bryant was drafted in 2013 by the Cubs, winning Rookie of Year and MVP in consecutive years. Rizzo was traded to the San Diego Padres in 2012, and was drafted by the Cubs. After helping to end a 108-year drought, both Rizzo and Pizzo are now considered Cubs icons.Ross stated, "I have spoken to both of them." Ross said that they are aware of the situation and could make it their last home game. Everything is okay.On Thursday, the Cubs made a trade that sent right-hander Ryan Tepera to Chicago from Texas in exchange for Bailey Horn, a minor league left-hander.
