Senate to vote on Capitol security bill, heading off August shortfalls

After weeks of deadlock, Senate appropriators set up a vote on Thursday to address security concerns at Capitol.The compromise bill, worth $2.1 billion, addresses security gaps around Capitol Complex. It fully reimburses the National Guard & Capitol Police for increased staffing requirements and provides $1.125 Billion in relief to Afghan nationals who aided the U.S. war effort.On the Senate floor, Patrick Leahy (D.Vt.), Appropriations Chair, stated that we must make a strong statement in support of those officers who protected the building and all it represents on that horrible day.
