BBC has announced that Doctor Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall will be leaving Doctor Who in 2022. After the 13th season, the duo will part ways with three special episodes that will air next year.AdvertisementMy wonderful gift box of 13-inch shoes arrived in 2017. They would have taken me on amazing adventures and worlds that I never imagined. Whittaker released a statement by the BBC stating that my heart is filled with love for this show, the people who make it, and the fans who enjoy it. Chris has been an incredible mentor and I am grateful for his amazing stories. We both knew we wanted to ride the wave together and share the responsibility. We are now weeks away from wrapping up the most rewarding job I've ever held. This job has been a blessing. I don't think I will ever be able express the gratitude I feel for it. I will always carry the Doctor and all the lessons I have learned. Change can be frightening and we don't know what lies ahead. We keep searching. Travel. You will be surprised by the Universe. You will be surprised. The corporation has announced that Doctor Who's 13th season will air as a six-part serial. It was originally planned to have eight episodes and two specials. In an accompanying statement, Chibnall stated that our shift was over and that we were returning the TARDIS keys. The iconic Jodie Doctor has exceeded our highest expectations. She has been the standard for leading actors, taking on the role of the first female Doctor. Her acting skills include style, strength and warmth. She captured the imagination of the public and continues to inspire admiration from all who are involved in the production. I cannot imagine working with a more inspirational Doctor. The first two seasons of Doctor Who were dominated by a struggle between Chibnall and Whittaker. This was a contrast to the shows classic roots and modern incarnation. Their first season struggled to find the right balance and often chose one over the other. Season 12 brought with it a better handling between these two sides of Doctor Whoalongwith some huge, sweeping revelations regarding the Doctors relationship to their past, which will undoubtedly play a role in Whittakers final year.Radio Times quotes the BBC saying that they will announce plans for the next generation of Doctor Who.
