U.S. pole vaulter Sam Kendricks out of Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19

American pole vault champion Sam Kendricks will not be competing in the Olympics due to positive COVID-19 tests.Kendricks father, who posted on social media that his son was healthy, was informed by Tokyo that he had tested positive for the disease and was therefore out of competition.The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee confirmed this news. According to the committee, Kendricks was placed in isolation at a hotel and is being supported and assisted by the USA Track and Field and USOPC.Kendricks took the gold medal at the previous two world championships and won the bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics. At 19 feet 10 inches, he holds the American record.
