Ron Popeil Infomercial King Dead at 86

Ron Popeil, Renaissance man who invented the Pocket Fisherman, and Hair in a Can has passed away, TMZ has learned.According to family sources, Ron died Wednesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (L.A.) after a serious medical emergency on Tuesday. His family was there to comfort him.Popeil was the creator of Showtime Rotisserie and BBQ. He also coined one the most famous catch phrases ever: "Set it and Forget It !!!"." It sold more than $1 billion in domestic sales and broke all previous sales records, including QVC.Ron was born in New York City, in 1935. He started his business venture with his father in Chicago's manufacturing plant. They sold kitchen products. Ron was able to learn and perfect the art of cooking because it made an impression.In 1959, Ron invented the Chop-O-Matic and it was a huge success -- 2,000,000 units. He then created the Veg-O'Matic in 1959 and it sold like crazy -- 2 million units. That catchphrase has become a standard in the infomercial industry, and is used by every product.Popeil also invented the Rhinestone Stud Setter (later the Bedazzler). It doesn't stop there, he also created Mr. Microphone and the Inside the Eggshell Egg Scrambler.Popeil founded Ronco in 1964, and sold hundreds of products to international TV viewers.He made many cameos on TV and film...
