Snapchat adds My Places feature to Snap Map, recommending spots to visit ' TechCrunch

We hope that more people venture out into the wild this summer. Snapchat wants to make it easier to locate restaurants, stores and parks in your neighborhood. Snapchat today launched the My Places feature in its Snap Map. This allows users to connect with more than 30 million businesses. You can log your favorite spots and send them to friends. My Places offers three tabs: Favorites, Popular, and Visited. The visited tab lists all places you have checked in on Snapchat. Favorites stores your favorite spots. The Popular tab is especially interesting because it is the first time Snapchat has used an algorithm to offer personalized recommendations to help users engage with the world. The algorithm takes into account where you are, what your friends have visited, and whether you've liked or tagged anything. This makes Snap Map socially-oriented and different from other resources such as Google Maps or Apple Maps. You can't use them to find the restaurants of your friends, but you can use Snap Map to help. Snapchat may not be able to give you directions to a trendy sushi bar but it is not intended to. Google Maps, on the other hand, can't show you where your friends went without you.Snapchat released survey results that indicated that users are more likely to engage in post-pandemic activities. Snapchat also revealed that 44% of Snapchatters use the Snap Map to locate places near them they are interested in.Snap Map has over 250 million monthly active Snap Map users. In May, Layers was announced by the company. This update allows partner companies to add data directly onto their map. Snapchat has partnered with Ticketmaster, a restaurant recommendation site, and The Infatuation to date. These partnerships allow users to see great hidden restaurants or where live entertainment is available. Snapchat plans to integrate Layers into Snap Map later in the year.Snap announced last week that it had achieved the highest growth rates in revenue and daily active users during Q2 of this year. The app has grown 23% year over year.
