Ok, okay, I admit it. I just wish I could not. How can we delicately approach this topic?Charlotte Airport shirtsWhen I fly, I wear casual clothes (and almost everywhere else). My 90% of wardrobe is made up of athletic wear, which I find comfortable in. Some readers make comments about stories about people's attire when they fly.Yesterday was an extended delay at Charlotte Airport. Nearly 200 people were huddled together around the gate due to the rolling delay. It was amazing to see how people dressed. Here's a quick glimpse of what I saw at my departure gate for one flight to Tampa.I'm not talking about the four Trump-themed outfits (ironically, the Trump mask was worn by the only one of the four who followed the federal mask mandate). You should know that there was no Biden 2020 or 2024 gear at the gate. It is because the election is over.I'm talking more about other things I sawThe shirt had a picture of a machine pistol on it and said that the lady was not pepper spray-type girl. What does this mental dialogue look like when you're getting ready to head to the airport? Hmmmm, I'm flying today. And I'll be trapped in a small space with strangers with different beliefs than mine. Let me wear the shirt that jokes about shooting people. We wonder why there has been an increase in flight disturbances.Or the man wearing an Its not Gay If Its TSA shirt. This might have been almost funny if not for the fact that he was travelling with a person wearing a confederate flag shirt. Then there was the guy who wore a shirt that said "Don't tread on me", which may have different meanings for different people. Is this in violation of American Airlines' dress code?American Airlines' dress code is too simple, according to my opinion. You must dress appropriately. It is interesting to note that when we hear of this being done, it almost always involves curvy women being told to cover up because they are showing too much even though they have all their private parts covered. This is what I wore when @AmericanAir asked for me to board a plane for a talk. At that point, I was asked to cover myself. As I was defending my outfit, I was threatened that I would not be allowed to board the flight unless I covered up and walked down the aisle with a blanket. #notsofriendlyskies pic.twitter.com/AYQNNriLcq Tisha Rowe MD, MBA (@tisharowemd) July 1, 2019People who are in agreement with this argument will say that they don't want their children exposed to such revealing clothing.Perhaps it's just me but I find a shirt that makes fun of machine guns or is homophobic more offensive than seeing women's natural curves while covering what needs to covered. That's me again.Bottom lineI'm not surprised by much these days, but I am disappointed at the clothes people are wearing at airports. Although I expected one or two, the sheer number that I saw was disconcerting. I also feel that there has been an increase in these shirts lately, at some airports more than others.Have you noticed an increase in the number of these statement t-shirts? What do you think? Do some of these t-shirts cross the line into offensive clothing and violate American Airlines' dress code?
