Amad Diallo and Folarin Balogun are just a few of the promising young players who will be making an impact this season. Each season, a small group of young players makes the first step towards becoming Premier League stars.Who are the most likely contenders to be this season’s breakout performers?BBC Sport has selected nine young players that could have an impact on the English top flight in the next season. There is a lot of guesswork involved here. We cannot possibly cover all the young stars, so please use the comments section and add your suggestions. Also, let us know why you think they will shine next year.Folarin Balogun (Arsenal)Arsenal fans and Arsenal have waited for their promising young strikers, who will start scoring in Premier League matches for many seasons.Folarin Balogun has big hopes of catching up to Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli, who are both slowing down for different reasons. The 20-year old made his debut in the first team last season. He played six games and scored twice in five Europa League matches. After signing a new four year deal in April, he is now set to remain a fixture in the first team squad.Nine goals in 18 Premier League2 games in 2019-20 are just a glimpse of his predatory abilities. With the Gunners seeming to be more interested in youth, this could be Balogun’s chance to shine on the big screen.Moises Caicedo (Brighton)According to reports, Brighton beat other European clubs in securing the signing of Moises Caicedo (19 years old), from Ecuador. This could have been a bargain 4m deal for the midfielder during the winter transfer window.Graham Potter, manager of the team, was quick to temper expectations by stating that it was important for the player to adjust to life in England and Premier League football.Caicedo may now be ready to shine with the help of his acclimatisation and the impressive Under-23 games he has played. His involvement in the team could be affected by the form and presence of Yves Bissouma. He was the first choice for defensive lynchpin in Brighton's midfield last year, but has been linked to a move out of Sussex.Liam Delap (Manchester City).Sergio Aguero's departure means that Manchester City will enter next season without Gabriel Jesus, their only recognised centre-forward.Pep Guardiola clearly has options. Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres both have the ability to act as false nines. This could help them significantly increase their numbers. They may, however, turn to Liam Delap, an 18-year old striker, if they are unable to make a major move.Signed in Derby from Stoke in 2018, Rory, the son of former Stoke players, scored 24 goals in 20 Under-23 matches last season. He also scored his first senior goal in a Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth. It's not often that a young player makes it into the elite Premier League clubs, particularly as a striker. But Delap could be a cost-effective success.Amad Diallo (Manchester United)Manchester United spent two years trying to get Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. But their most recent success could be the 19m Atalanta paid for Amad Diallo in January.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United's boss at the time, described the 19-year old Ivorian as "one of the most exciting young prospects" and he has already displayed flashes. He is quick, skilled, and direct with great vision. This could make him a nightmare to Premier League defenders.Although he has competition in many attacking areas, he will have four competitions to choose from, which will ensure that he is well-positioned for Old Trafford.United's promising young players include Shola Shoretire (17 years old) and Hannibal Mejbri (18 year old midfielder).Cody Drameh, LeedsLeeds is gaining a reputation for being a team that offers a clearer path to first-team football than many in the English top flight.More than 10 players under-23 have made their debuts during the Argentine's reign. Cody Drameh, a 19-year-old Fulham signing in August 2020, could be the next.Drameh has some rivals in forward Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Lewis Bate. However, Drameh is more well-placed than most. His path as a right-back is easier, with Luke Ayling only in front, but the versatile Stuart Dallas can also be considered for the role.Drameh will also be bringing the Under-23 player award to the club to this campaign. He helped them get promoted to the first division after 21 games full of drive and dynamism.Harvey Elliott (Liverpool).Harvey Elliott seems like he has been around for quite some time, but this is mostly because he made his Premier League debut at Fulham at the age of 16 years and 30.Liverpool signed him in July 2019, and they have worked hard to make him a regular first-team player over the years. After a successful loan spell at Blackburn last year, where he scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 42 matches, it seems that he is ready to move up.Jurgen Klopp, Reds boss, has made positive comments already this preseason. Elliott is playing a deeper role in midfield than his usual left-sided forward role.Klopp must start planning for the future without Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah (now all 29), who are now first-choice forwards. This opens up the door for Elliott.Billy Gilmour (Norwich on loan from Chelsea).Scotland's midfielder Billy Gilmour is moving this summer to make the next step in his journey towards being a Premier League regular. After a few promising performances in Chelsea's middlefield last season, the 20-year old impressed at Euro 2020. Now, he needs to get top-flight time to prove his talent. He has been temporarily promoted to Norwich with the elite trio Jorginho and N'Golo Kant in front of him. After his successful loan spell last year, Oliver Skipp has returned to Tottenham and is now a forward-thinking coach for the Canaries. It will be a huge win for everyone involved if Gilmour can improve on the 11 first-team appearances that he managed in 2019-20.Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)Marc Guehi is a symbol of a changing guard at Crystal Palace. It has gone from Roy Hodgson's mature and experienced squad to Patrick Vieira's younger, more promising one.Guehi, 21, was a promising centre-back in the country and moved to the country from Chelsea this summer for an estimated 18 million. He has yet to get on the bench. His two outstanding loan spells at Swansea, in the Championship, meant that his playing time at Stamford Bridge would be limited. However, Palace's combination of technical and physical ability suits him perfectly.Guehi will be joining other promising young recruits at Selhurst Park alongside Jean-Philippe Mateta forward and Michael Olise, who have all left the club's senior first-team ranks.Oliver Skipp (Tottenham)Oliver Skipp, who was on loan at Norwich, returned to Tottenham with 45 appearances, two assists and a goal, and a Championship winner's Medal. He also has rave reviews. He would have been a great addition to the Canaries' squad for another season. It is remarkable that Tottenham did not approve such a move.Spurs have competition in the middle, but Nuno Espirito Sante, the new boss, provides everyone with a fresh start. He also has a strong pre-season performance against Colchester. Skipp is ready. He is 20 years old and this season will be a major one for him. It will also give him the chance to improve on his 15 Premier League appearances.
