Rivera stated Tuesday that she was "totally frustrated", according to Nicki Jhabvala, Washington Post. "I'm immune-deficient, which is why I wear a mask when I go in. ... "I just hope our guys understand that."Rivera stated that he is now at risk following his last year of treatment for cancer, according to David Aldridge from The Athletic.Jhabvala reported that Washington had the lowest vaccination rate in the NFL, with just 60 percent of its players having been vaccinated by Monday. This percentage has increased since earlier in the month, when Rob Maaddi from the Associated Press reported that Washington was one of only two teams with less than 50% of players having received at least one shot.Tom Pelissero, of NFL Network, reported Tuesday that 85 per cent of NFL players had received at least one vaccine shot.Rivera had brought in a vaccine expert to inform players in June, but there was still resistance, even from Montez Sweat, a defensive end.Sweat stated that he was not a fan. Sam Fortier, Washington Post reported that Sweat spoke out against the idea of hiring an expert. "... "...According to Carla K. Johnson of the Associated Press and Mike Stobbe from the Associated Press, the vaccine has been effective in limiting serious illnesses. In May, only 1.1 percent total hospitalizations were due to COVID-19.A vaccine will not only provide health benefits but also help to ease the restrictions that the NFL places on its players. Players who are not vaccinated will need to have additional testing and may be subject to travel restrictions during the season. In a recent memo, it was also stated that teams could be forced to forfeit games in the event of an outbreak.
