Masters of the Universe: Revelation was a critical success before its release on Netflix last week. However, the animated continuation of Eternia's best has faced anger and review-bombing on social media due to a bad-faith interpretation of the shows that Kevin Smith has very little time for.AdvertisementThe backlash against Revelation stems from Smith and his team at Powerhouse Animation Studios claiming that they lied to He'Man fans by not having Prince Adam and He-Man (both voices by Chris Wood in Revelation) play a significant role in the five episodes released on Netflix July 23. The episodes are about Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who travels to Eternias equivalents to heaven and hell to try to revive Adam after He-Man gives himself to defeat Skeletor. Although Adam and He-Man are dead, they appear in flashbacks in a majority of episodes. The main thrust of the series remains about him, despite Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Evil-Lyn(Lena Headey) being at the forefront.Smith spoke out about the backlash in a broad interview with Variety. I was like, Okay, great. The original cartoon was fucking sequelizing. You can watch it again. Every episode has girls. Let's face it. There are girls in every episode. He lost his sword in episodes, but he never became HeMan. He-Man didn't always save the day. His friends supported him. This was the best part of the show. This was before there was any real backlash to the show's release. Resentful viewers sank the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB and a whole industry of reactionary YouTubers declared that Smith had turned He-Man too Woke and too SJW too... She-Man? However, Smith is open about what he thinks of those who believe he has ruined He-Man. Smith tells a story about He'Man through the eyes and perspectives of Revelations. Smith said, "He-Man is being eliminated!" You really think Mattel Television, which hired me and paid money to me, would like to do a fucking Masters of the Universe without He-Man? Get the fucking up, man. That was amazing. A lot of people were saying, "Oh, I smell it." This is a bait-and-switch. Mind you, Kevin Smith's lies were trending on Twitter for a while. The first episode of Revelations ends with a cliffhanger. Teela and her friends have revived Adam. Skeletor, however, is mortally wounded Adam as he attempts to transform back into He-Man. Wood hopes that fans will see the cliffhanger as it is and not be depressed by the fact that Revelations has ruined his character. Adams is not dead, he's still very wounded. You could set the world ablaze by taking He-Man out. They've discovered new ways to flip the dynamics of the show and increase the stakes in a way that is different from what the original saw.The world seemed to have been set ablaze anyway.
