GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger chokes up while telling police who fought off pro-Trump mob on January 6 that 'you guys won'

You guys won. "You guys held," Kinzinger, an Air Force veteran, said to the officers at the House select committee hearing on the January 6 insurrection.Our bad days do not define democracy. Kinzinger continued, "We are defined by how we recover from bad days."Kinzinger was one of two GOP legislators on the committee. He also attacked his fellow Republicans for trying to downplay the insurrection, and dismiss the probe, as a partisan sham."We don't know what exactly happened. Why? This is because many people in my party treat this as a partisan fight. It's toxic, it's a disservice for the officers and their families," Kinzinger stated.Trump's lies about 2020 and the January 6th insurrection were what prompted the January 6th rebellion. He claimed that the election was "stolen" from Trump and encouraged thousands of his supporters to march on Capitol Hill that day. Although the rioters delayed, they were unable to stop President Joe Biden's Electoral College win.A number of high-ranking Republicans condemned the rioters immediately after the attack on the Capitol and criticized Trump for inciting it. After Trump's insurrection, the GOP's tone changed within weeks. Senate Republicans made sure that Trump was exonerated. Since then, Republicans have joined forces to try to erase the insurrection and rewrite the history while opposing any investigation into the Capitol attack.Continue the storyLate May, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have established a bipartisan independent commission to investigate the insurrection. The House voted in favor of creating a committee to investigate the riot.Kevin McCarty, House Minority Leader, recommended last week five Republicans to the committee. Two of his choices, Trump loyalists Reps. Jim Banks or Jim Jordan, were rejected by Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker. Both Jordan and Banks objected at the certification of election results. McCarthy also opposed certification and spoke with Trump on the day before the insurrection. He then pulled all his picks and stated that Republicans would continue their investigation. The GOP leader dismissed the House inquiry as partisan "sham"As the other Republican on Kinzinger's nine-member panel, Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming joined Kinzinger.
