Simone Biles withdraws from the U.S. team's vault performance at team finals and she is replaced by Tomasz Kowalski. (0:38). USA Gymnastics reports that Simone Biles, the Olympic champion, is unable to compete in Tuesday's team finals due to a "medical problem." After landing her vault, the 24-year-old U.S. gymnast was huddled up with a trainer. After landing her vault, she huddled with a trainer and then left the competition floor along with the team doctor. Biles returned a few minutes later. After grabbing her bar grips off, she hugged Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Grace McCallum before putting on her jacket and sweatpants. USA Gymnastics stated in a statement that Simone had withdrawn from the team's final competition because of a medical issue. "She will be evaluated daily to determine her medical clearance for future competitions." The Americans will have to complete the remainder of the competition without her, which severely hinders their chances of winning a third consecutive Olympic title. Finals for vault were held in the United States, with Biles coming in last. The vault she was supposed to perform was the "Amanar." This involves a roundoff back handspring onto a table, followed by 2 1/2 twists. In mid-air she changed her mind and did only 1 1/2 twist. After being tended to by Marcia Faustin, team doctor, she walked off the podium. Biles arrived in Tokyo unquestionably the star of the Games, but she struggled during qualifying. On Monday, Biles shared that she felt the weight of the entire world on her shoulders and that the Olympics were "no joke." Five years ago, Biles won five Rio de Janeiro medals and was able to win the most after reaching all five finals. It is not yet clear if she will be available to compete in the all-around final Thursday night or the event finals later in Games. The United States is now trailing ROC 2.5 points after two rotations. This report was contributed by The Associated Press.
