Simone Biles out of Tokyo Olympics team final; USA Gymnastics cites 'medical issue'

(0:38).USA Gymnastics reports that Simone Biles, the Olympic champion, is unable to compete in Tuesday's team finals due to a "medical problem."After landing her vault, the 24-year-old U.S. gymnast was huddled up with a trainer. After grabbing her bar grips off, she hugged Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Grace McCallum before putting on a jacket.USA Gymnastics stated in a statement that Simone had withdrawn from the team's final competition because of a medical issue. "She will be evaluated daily to determine her medical clearance for future competitions."The Americans will have to complete the remainder of the competition without her, which severely hinders their chances of winning a third consecutive Olympic title.Finals for vault were held in the United States, with Biles coming in last. The vault she was supposed to perform was the "Amanar", which involves a roundoff back handspring onto a table and then 2 1/2 twists. In mid-air she changed her mind and did only 1 1/2 twist.After being tended to by Marcia Faustin, team doctor, she walked off the podium.Biles arrived in Tokyo unquestionably the star of the Games, but she struggled during qualifying. On Monday, Biles shared that she felt the weight of the entire world on her shoulders and that the Olympics were "no joke."Five years ago, Biles won five Rio de Janeiro medals and was able to win the most after reaching all five finals.
