Former Sen. Mike Enzi dies after bicycle accident

Hours after Enzis' death, it was announced that the former senator suffered serious injuries while riding his bicycle near Gillette, Wyo.Enzi was taken to the UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies, Loveland, Colo. on Friday night after the accident.Twitter account of former senators stated Monday afternoon that Enzis' injuries were severe and details of the bike accident were not known at this point. His condition is being assessed by medical staff.Enzi was a senator for four terms before retiring as the chairman of the powerful Budget Committee in 2020. Former Rep. Cynthia Lummis (a Republican) replaced him.Enzi was mayor of Gillette, and a member of both the state House and Senate before he entered the Senate. Enzi also served as a member of the U.S. Department of Interior Coal Advisory Committee.Enzi is a graduate of The George Washington University as well as the University of Denver. He was also a member of Wyoming's National Guard. Enzi also owned and operated shoe shops in Wyoming and Montana.
