Lucasfilm hires Star Wars Mandalorian deepfake YouTuber

This post will discuss the plot of The Mandalorian. It's been over half a year since The Mandalorian season 2 was concluded. It was for some a triumph of storytelling, effects and creativity. Others, however, were disappointed by the ending. We are not allowed to spoil it yet. This is your spoiler warning.AdvertisementThe Mandalorian ends with a mysterious Jedi named Luke Skywalker, voiced by Mark Hamill. He saves the day because of some de-aging effects that looked a lot like a sweaty deepfake on Reddit. Even after two seasons of some very effective practical effects like Baby Yodas' bento box, it wasn't pretty. Even worse, these effects, just like any other computer-generated effect will get worse over time. It was worth the wait to see Luke Skywalker sabotaging a few droids. Some YouTubers tried to beat the state-of the-art technology of Industrial Light and Magic. This is what produced the Star Wars visual effects. Shamook, a YouTuber, took it upon himself to fix ILMs effects, smoothen over the edges of Luke Skywalker's face, and properly fit the characters onto his head within days. Shamooks work is so much better than the original. This is likely why the video has almost two million views. It's probably the reason Lucasfilm hired Shamook.According to IndieWire Lucasfilm confirmed Shamooks' hiring. Industrial Light and Magic are always looking for talented artists and have actually hired Shamooks, according to a Lucasfilm representative in a statement to IndieWire. ILM has invested in machine learning and A.I. over the past few years. It is a way to create compelling visual effects work. It has been amazing to see the momentum build in this area as technology advances.Shamook also posted their hiring announcement in the comments section of the video. Shamook explained that I joined ILM/Lucasfilm several months ago, and haven't had time to work on any new YouTube videos. Uploads should increase now that I'm settled in my job. They'll be slow but not too far apart. There is a new hope for Lucasfilm with the possibility of more aged versions of classic Star Wars characters.
