Missouri Tigers AD Jim Sterk to step down after five years; will remain until replacement found

(1:16).On Monday, Jim Sterk, Missouri's athletic director, announced that they had mutually agreed to step down when the school can find his replacement.This announcement comes at a time when collegiate athletics are in turmoil as former Big 12 brethren Oklahoma (and Texas) are contemplating a move to SEC.Missouri and Texas A&M were expelled from the Big 12 to become members of the SEC in 2011.Sterk stated in a statement that he was leaving Missouri's athletic department "well-positioned for future success."Sterk was instrumental in raising funds for the department. He was also a great help to the football program. The football program opened a new facility at the south end zone in 2019, and is currently on track to build a $34million indoor football practice facility by the fall 2021.Missouri President Mun Choi stated that "We are grateful to Jim's dedicated leadership over the past five years to position Mizzou towards even greater success." We are grateful for his many contributions as we look for the next leader for Mizzou Athletics."We are now beginning a national search to find a visionary athletics chief who will create a strategy plan for Mizzou in order to achieve extraordinary success in the SEC as well as to chart a bold course in the ever-changing world of collegiate athletics."After stints at San Diego State and Washington State, Sterk was appointed A.D. in August 2016.
