She fought back from a puncture on her bike which had left her far behind the leaders.Taylor-Brown (27 years old) was 22 seconds slower than a four-woman group - which also included British team-mate Jessica Learmonth. They were going into the final leg of Tokyo 2020.Learmonth was unable to make it past Learmonth and finished ninth. Katie Zaferes, an American, and Laura Lindemann, Germany were also on the podium. After dominating the race, Bermuda's Flora Duffy won a historic first medal for her country.Taylor-Brown finished 15 seconds faster than Taylor-Brown, the 33-year old who had rejected the opportunity to represent Britain as an adolescent. It is an extraordinary moment. Duffy said, "I crossed the line today, but I did it in Bermuda for everyone."Bronze was won by Zaferes (32), who finished over a minute faster than the rest of her field.Vicky Holland, third British hopeful, placed 13th after a crash on her bicycle.Britain has their second medal in triathlon at the Games thanks to Taylor-Brown's brave recovery, after Alex Yee's silver in the men's race on Monday.Taylor-Brown received a post-race interview from her British team-mates, where both Learmonth (and Holland) congratulated her on her accomplishment.Taylor Brown's hopes seemed to be overshadowed by a flat tire less than one kilometre from the end on the 40km ride. She later stated that she was "panicked" at the time the incident occurred."I didn’t know what I should do so I rode out on the flat. Duffy shared his dream of becoming an Olympic champion since I was eight years old."I have experienced many tears and heartbreaks. I often wondered if I would ever get healthy enough to be able to compete at the top."Although Taylor-Brown lost her chances of winning gold, she stated that she would have been content with a top five after a difficult build-up.Due to illness, she withdrew her from the final preTokyo World Series round at Leeds. She said, "To be truthful, the lead up wasn't great and everyone knows that."Learmonth said, "I cannot believe how amazing this [Taylor Brown] girl is. She said that she was "goosebumps” at the American's achievements."Katie lost her dad earlier in the year, and to overcome that and still win a medal at Olympics is inspiring."
