Cheney-McCarthy war of words heats up over Jan. 6 investigation

McCarthy was asked if the pair should be subject to sanctions for accepting Pelosi’s appointment as inquiry chair. McCarthy replied that they would "we'll have to see".Kinzinger brushed aside the subtle threat Monday: If the conference decides that it punishes him and Cheney he said it says more about them then it does about me."Kinzinger said that he would not rule out calling fellow Republican members to testify before a select panel. He stated that it was important to hear their relevant information if possible. He said that while discussions are ongoing regarding the scope of Republican staff to the inquiry, Kinzinger praised former Rep. Denver Riggleman, R-Va., as an example for such hires.McCarthy will try to tie Cheney and Kinzinger up to Pelosi. He often appears in GOP attack ads. However, both men have strong conservative voting records that can counter his attacks. Steny Hoyer, House Majority Leader, noted this while arguing Monday Cheney and Kinzinger were real Republicans.Anyone who examines the voting records for Mr. Kinzinger or Ms. Cheney will see that they haven't voted with Speaker Pelosi on any bill other than the most bipartisan, Hoyer stated. These people are conservative Republican voters who have defended Republican values. They both believe in truth, but that is the difference.
