Trump ally Tom Barrack pleads not guilty to foreign agent charges

Both men were represented by attorneys who entered pleas of non-guilty on their behalf.Barrack was a prominent private equity investor and was released on a $250 million bond. This mirrors an agreement Barrack reached in California Friday.Barrack, aged 74, was charged with conspiracy, obstruction of justice, failing to register as foreign agent, and four counts each of making false statements about the FBI.Prosecutors claim that he used pro-UAE language in a Trump campaign speech in 2015, received direction from UAE officials on what to say in media appearances, and then agreed to promote the preferred candidate for the U.S. Ambassadorship to the Middle East.Today, Tom Barrack pleaded not guilty. Matthew Herrington, his attorney, stated that he did so because he is innocent. He was charged with charges based on information he had discussed in my conference room over two years ago. He is innocent. We are looking forward to the day when he proves it in court.Judge Sanket Bulsara is a magistrate judge of U.S. District Court Eastern District of New York. He agreed to release Barrack for $250 million bail. This unusually large amount was because prosecutors considered him a flight risk.Barrack stated that he was innocent of these charges in a statement that his attorney distributed after he left court in a black SUV.It is important to remember that three miles away, in New York Harbor, is the Statue of Liberty. She holds a torch in her right hand and welcomes the seven continents. My grandparents arrived in America in 1896 and 1900 from humble beginnings. They gave me the gift that America has to give. This statue is made from steel and has a copper patina. We were in a very hot moment, and I can only say that the hardest steel is made from the hottest fire.Four properties, $5 Million cash and shares in an investment company were used to secure the bond of Trump advisers. Jonathan Grunzweig (his son, ex-wife, and business associate) agreed to pledge their homes in order to release him.Bulsara advised Barrack to not violate his bail conditions or he would lose his entire family. He said that it might wipe you out.Barrack agreed to not travel beyond Colorado, where Barrack lives, California, where his children reside, and New York where he must appear before a court. Barrack gave up his passport and said he would not travel by private aircraft, something he had done many times in the past. He also pledged to not have contact with Grimes or to carry out foreign business transactions.Judge said that the substantial bond package was adequate to reduce the flight risk.Grimes was released with a $5 million bond. His parents pledged their home as collateral. The case also includes Rashid Al-Malik (a UAE businessman), who is being charged. However, he fled the country in 2019, after being interrogated by the FBI.Tensions flared at the conclusion of the hearing after it was revealed that Grimes' lawyers had begun to receive discovery materials from federal prosecutors over a weekend. Herrington, the Barracks attorney, claimed he didn't receive them.Herrington called it extremely irregular and demanded an explanation. Grimes lawyer claimed that he requested one item for his client. Prosecutors stated that they would provide additional discovery starting this week.
