Doctor Who has been forced to dedicate an entire season of its current era to one story by the COVID-19 pandemic. Chris Chibnall, showrunner of Doctor Who, said this today at a Doctor Who panel held online-only San Diego Comic-Con. Did I mention that we were given a glimpse of Series 13 in a teaser video? To see it, click the video play button.Last year, we had learned that the new season would only have eight episodes. But Chibnall said that it drove the BBC to do more: It's all one story so each episode is a chapter in a larger story.Continue reading:There were two options: we could do lots of small episodes in one place with no monsters or we could do the largest story we've ever done. We could also go to all sorts of places and have many characters and monsters. It would be the most ambitious thing that we've done since the beginning of the series. This season sounds quite different from the previous Doctor Who seasons that introduced a mystery slowly and then solved it at the end (Bad Wolf and crack in the wall). You can watch the panel live online. It's free and stars Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill (Yas), as well as new cast members John Bishop (and Jacob Anderson). If you're wondering why Anderson looks so familiar, Anderson played Grey Worm in Game of Thrones. Here you go:You shouldn't be surprised by the following: We meet up with Yas and Doctor Yas, who have been traveling together for a while, and we meet them halfway through their adventure. They stumble upon Dan Lewis. Thats all I will tell you, Chibnall.During the holiday special on January 1, Bishop's character Dan Lewis was teased by the show.Whittakers' only hint for Whovians is that she is most excited to have amazing interactions with old monsters. Series 13 is not yet available. We do know that it will be released later in the year and will likely only stream on HBO Max or BBC America.
