Skateboarding was also inaugurated on Saturday with the men's street competition. Yuto Horigome from Japan won the gold. On Monday, the first ever women's skateboarding event in North America will take place in Tokyo.It took surfing more than 100 years to make. Duke Kahanamoku was the father of modern surfing. He won gold in the 1912 Olympics for swimming and, from the podium, expressed his hope that surfing would be a part of the Games.Skateboarding's inclusion in the Olympics is also a sign of its mainstream status.Josh Friedberg, USA Skateboarding CEO, said that it was a surreal juxtaposition of my entire life in skateboarding. "I still get harassed and questioned by security guards. I skate in the lot behind my grocery shop.
