Nintendo today announced a new Switch model with a larger 7 inch 720p OLED screen. Although rumors suggested that the new Switch would come with a new Nvidia Chip inside, the OLED model is mostly an upgrade to the screen. Nintendo lists the Switch OLED model only as supporting 1080p via TV mode. Rumours suggested that 4K support was possible thanks to a rumored Nvidia upgrade. On October 8, the Switch OLED model will be available for $350.This model has a new screen and an adjustable stand to play on the tabletop. It also features 64GB of built-in storage, up from 32GB, a dock with a wired Ethernet port, and better audio for tabletop or handheld play. Nintendo mentions only 1080p via HDMI when using the TV dock. This means that the 4K mode is not part of the OLED Switch.The Verge has been informed by Nintendo that the memory and CPU are not being modified in any significant way. A Nintendo spokesperson stated that the Nintendo Switch (OLED) doesn't have a new CPU or more RAM than previous Nintendo Switch models.There are no other changes to the original device. The new OLED Switch's battery life is expected to last up to nine hours. This is the same as the current Switch. The OLED Switch is slightly larger than the original Switch and weighs 0.71 lbs (0.32kg). This is in comparison to the original Switch's 0.66 pound (0.29kg).Original Joy-Cons and existing games will work on the new Switch OLED model. When the Switch OLED model arrives later in the year, Nintendo will offer both black and white units. This dock will work with the Nintendo Switch as well as this OLED model.The updated Switch has been widely rumored in recent months. Nintendo chose to announce it after E3 focused on new Switch games. According to reports, the new Switch will be revealed before E3 started last month.Nearly two years have passed since Nintendo's Switch Lite was released. This smaller, less expensive version of the Switch can be hooked up to a TV but you cannot use it. In September 2019, the Switch Lite was priced at $199.The Nintendo Switch has been selling extremely well. It has dominated the US sales charts for almost two years straight. Switch lifetime sales have reached 84.59million units shipped since its 2017 launch, a figure which is closer to the Wii's 101.63M lifetime sales mark.
