Ezgjan Alioski: Leeds United announce departure of Macedonian wing-back after four-year stay

After failing to reach an agreement on a new contract, Ezgjan Alioski left Leeds United.After his transfer from FC Lugano, the 29-year old made 171 appearances at Elland Road, scoring 22 goals in four years.Alioski's contract was due to expire on July 1. Leeds won the Sky Bet Championship title in 2020 thanks to Alioski.Leeds stated in a club statement that "While the club offered Gjanni to remain, we were unable to reach an arrangement with his representatives. His contract expired last week."Alioski represented North Macedonia at Euro 2020. He played 36 times last season for Leeds, which finished ninth in the top flight.Victor Orta, director of football, said that Gjanni was special from the moment he entered the building."I was moved by the emotion I saw in his eyes and those of his parents as he signed his contract at Elland Road. It was a beautiful moment. I knew he would give his best for Leeds United."Even with all this in mind, he exceeded my expectations."Gjanni was exceptional on and off the field.
