2019 was the year of folding phones. Devices like the Galaxy Fold or Huawei Mate X were on the market. These were luxury items that only the most affluent Android nerds could afford to buy. It is possible that the 2020 Galaxy Z Flip was the first to solve the foldable formula. It was cheaper than the Fold and was available from more carriers. The 5G version was released later with an upgraded processor. However, we haven't heard much about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 since then. We were instead gifted the Galaxy Z Fold 2, an opulent foldable that truly blew our minds with its superpowered specs and (unfortunately) high price. Samsung has big plans for its 2021 Galaxy phones, including a Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, this foldable will likely be just as expensive as its predecessors. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 is a foldable phone that can be afforded by regular people, but still offers the most recent tech and specs. We are closely monitoring the latest leaks and rumors. It may even be called the Galaxy Z Flip 3!Original Flip Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Samsung's original Flip is still amazing. Even though we expect the Galaxy Z Flip 2 to arrive in the next few months, it doesn't mean that the original Flip should not be considered. It's still a great purchase and one we are happy to recommend. The Z Flip is a unique phone that you can purchase in 2021. When you combine it with amazing software and specs, it becomes an extremely attractive purchase. Samsung has not yet confirmed anything but we are pretty certain (though there is no confirmation) that the new Samsung foldables will be revealed and shipped this summer. On February 11, 2020, the original Z Flip was revealed at one of Samsung’s Unpacked events along with the Galaxy S20. The phone was then released on February 14, just days after its initial unveiling. Samsung was originally planning to release a new foldable every year. Samsung threw a wrench in the works when it launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, with an upgraded Snapdragon processor and 5G speeds, but the same specifications. We were not sure if Samsung would consider this the Z Flip 3 or an incremental update. Also, how it would impact future releases. After no new foldables had been announced at the 2021 Unpacked event, Ice Universe, a Samsung leaker, said that Flip 3 and Fold 3 may be delayed for 5 months. The new Z Flip could arrive in July 2021, and (B) Samsung could call it the "third edition", with the 5G version being the actual "Z Flip 2". This prediction and a SamMobile claim that the new Z Flip will run on One UI 3.5 lead us to believe you won't see the Galaxy Z Flip 3 until at least the second half 2021. The August launch window was extended by Leaker Jon Prosser, who claimed that the Z Flip 3 would ship on August 27. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 priceSource: Andrew Martonik/Android CentralThe Galaxy Folds and Z Flip are expensive to make. The Galaxy Fold was a hit when it launched at $1,980. Its successor, the Z Flip, is available for purchase at a similar price of $2,980. The Z Flip launched at an exorbitant $1450 and has recently fallen to $1,200. According to rumors, both the Z Flip and Z Fold will be launched at the same time. Samsung could profit from this and make the Galaxy Z Flip 3 seem "cheap" compared to the Z Fold 3, which will likely cost $2,000, just like its predecessors. It will be called the Galaxy Z Flip 3 (or Galaxy Z Flip 3), but it will likely have an upgraded outside screen and hinge, as well as cameras. However, this shouldn't mean a higher price. The base Z Flip 3 will not cost more than $1500, according to our estimates. DSCC predicts that in 2021, the Z Flip 3 and Samsung's other foldables "will be at the lowest prices yet." This suggests that it could be launched in the $1300-and-under price range. SamMobile reports that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 may start at $1,100 in America.Source: GizNextWe finally got a glimpse at the Z Flip 3 design thanks to a leak from @TheGalox_, a Twitter tipter. Evan Blass leaked more detailed renders. It appears that the foldable device is the same size and shape as the original Z Flip. The external screen is noticeably larger than the predecessor, which will allow for a lot more functionality. This was an issue with the original Z Flip, where the tiny display made it virtually impossible to use. Although we don't know the exact dimensions of the external and internal screens, Techradar reports that the Z Flip 3 will feature a "6.7-inch" internal screen. The cover display will be 1.9 inches in width. Although images of the interior of the phone remain unpublished, it seems that the dimensions of the cover display and the inner screen are approximately the same. The internal screen is expected to have a similar hole punch cutout to the OG Z Flip.Source: GizNextThe Z Flip 3's cover display has a major change: the cameras are now placed side by side. The horizontally aligned lenses are gone, and replaced by dual cameras and a neatly arranged flashlight. This was likely done to allow for better screen usage. Two 12MP lenses are expected to be used by the cameras. The Z Flip 3 seems to have a metal body, and is thicker than its older sibling. All rumors and leaks suggest that the new Samsung Z Flip phone will be available in eight colors: beige (gray), black, pink (blue), green (violet), and white). The Z Flip 3 is shown in violet and beige in a recent leak. The back features a two-tone color scheme with the rear display and rear camera module being bordered by a black bar.Leaked renders show a USB Type C port on the phone's bottom. Speakers are also visible. According to a leakster Gorilla Glass Victus protection is included on the folding phone, which promises a stronger build quality. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also reported to have an IP rating. This makes it the first foldable phone that can withstand water. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 SpecificationsSource: Andrew Martonik/Android CentralGalaxy Z Flip 3 leaks so far have confirmed improved 12MP dual cameras. They also suggest an upgraded front camera and a larger battery. According to IceUniverse, there is also a 120Hz refresh rate and storage of up to 256GB (via SamMobile). GalaxyClub speculates that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 could come in both 5G and 4G/LTE versions. These specs are only speculation until Samsung confirms them. The big question is what Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset will be used by the Galaxy Z Flip 3. We expect the Z Fold 3 will include the Snapdragon 888, which is the most recent available. Until rumors of a SM8450 chipset become more specific, it's safe to assume that the Flip Z 2 will use the SD 888 chip. However, if the Z Flip 3 is a low-priced foldable we might see a slight decrease in computing power. However, we fully expect it will be running Android 11 with the most recent version of One UI 3. The Galaxy Z Fold 5G was actually given Android 11 prior to the Z Fold 2 and along with the Galaxy S20 series. Future foldables will be able to use the latest software. FAQ for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3.Source: Android CentralWill the Galaxy Z Flip 3 have 5G connectivity? The rumors and information that have been made so far don't reveal much about the inside of the foldable phone. We are betting on the most recent and best Qualcomm silicon because the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be a high-end product at a very expensive price. The Snapdragon 888, which supports 5G, is currently the top-of the-line SoC from the chipset manufacturer. Even if Samsung chooses a less expensive chip, it will likely support 5G. It is possible that something like the SD865+ 5G chip will be used in such a scenario. There is another possibility of two models: a 4G and a 5G variant. It's almost certain that the Z Flip 3 will either be 5G-enabled or at minimum a 5G model. Original Galaxy Z Flip is unique, but expensiveSource: Daniel Bader/Android CentralThe Galaxy Z Flip 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be a great piece of tech. But, we have to wait a while before it is available. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the best folding phone currently available. This leaves you with the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a newer cover screen, a larger inner screen at 120Hz and is almost tablet-sized when folded. It's still quite expensive, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which is more affordable than a full-specced laptop is, is far more fun to use and costs less. It has a sturdy hinge, the Snapdragon 865+ processor is fast enough for gaming and computing, and runs Android OS smoothly. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is expected to arrive in the summer. It could also be comparable in price to the current Z Flip. However, you might want to wait to see what the new phone offers. If you are looking for a compact, foldable phone that fits easily in your pocket and is what you're looking for, then we recommend this model.
