Let's start with fuel.Petrol vs. diesel vs. electricityUnsurprisingly, 59% of the 186,128 cars sold were powered by petrol. Let's call them the poor overall winners last month. However, their diesel-powered counterparts didn't fare so well. We have definitely identified our losers. Only one in ten UK cars was powered by diesel. This is especially true when you consider that their sales during the first six months in 2021 dropped nearly 22% compared with 2020.This is what I call the upcoming winners, or EVs. Electric vehicles made up 10.6% of all new cars sold in October, surpassing 19,800 units. Bravo, Brits! These are the top 10 most-sold cars in the UKBut what about individual models? Is there a trend towards electrification?Surprisingly, the answer is yes In fact, the EV was the best-selling vehicle in June! With 5,468 units sold, the Tesla Model 3 was the most popular. Earth-destroyers, you are a suck! This is not all the good news. Although the Vauxhall Corsa is now available in all-electric form, it was fourth. We need to temper our excitement a bit.A few hybrids made it onto the list, too (yay! The Toyota Yaris was in seventh place, while the BMW 3 series was in ninth. The BMW 3 series likely includes its more stinky personas, just like the Corsa. However, the fact that an EV topped the list and 10.6% of all sold cars in June was a positive sign for the UK's shift to more sustainable models is a good indicator. Here's the complete list of all the top ten cars:Tesla Model 3 (5.468 sold), Volkswagen Golf (4.629 sold), Ford Puma (4.447 sold), Vauxhall Corsa (4.375 sold), Ford Fiesta (3.752 sold), Volkswagen Polo (3.752 sold), Toyota Yaris (3.546 sold), Volkswagen Polo (3.752 sold), Volkswagen Polo (3.752 sold), Toyota Yaris (3.546 sold), Mini hatchback (3.506 sold), BMW 3 Series (3.048 sold), Kia Sortage (2.94777 sold)Are EVs able to excite your electrons.
