Airbnb's party crackdown has blocked more than 100,000 bookings

Airbnb has not yet lifted its ban on under-25s housing, even though America is free from lockdown, and more people are being blocked that we know.Airbnb claims that its anti-party safety program has prevented more than 100,000 "suspicious” bookings since it launched in the U.S. last August. (The Verge reported previously that this number was above 50,000; however, that number did not include the major cities listed below.The Airbnb system prohibits guests under 24 years old and with fewer than 3 positive Airbnb reviews from booking entire houses close to their homes. After a string of violent house parties, the initiative was launched in Canada in 2020.The online rental marketplace stated last year that "we know that people over 24 are perfectly capable to book a home for the incorrect reasons too," in a statement. We believe that this policy is necessary to safeguard the safety of our community, based on the positive effect it has had on guests booking unauthorized parties under 25.Airbnb has confirmed that the following data is accurate for its blocked booking system. Los Angeles, known as the Land of Irresponsible Influencers and Los Angeles is the top of the list, with more than 15,000 party shut downs over the past year. If you have a strong Airbnb history or long-term rental plans, it will allow you to book entire houses. Airbnb spokesperson Ben Breit told Mashable that if your booking is denied, you will be notified at the time your attempt to book. Breit stressed that the initiative is focused upon "unauthorized parties" meaning any party that was thrown without the consent or knowledge of the hosts.In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Airbnb has made safety a major selling point. Airbnb implemented an eight-point plan for "summer of responsible tourism" in spring. It included limiting bookings during the Fourth of July weekend and providing 24/7 customer support, as well as offering discounts on noise detection devices to hosts.Airbnb announced last month a partnership with Vrbo to remove "party houses" rentals that are advertised for large gatherings (and possibly dangerous) from their marketplace.Vrbo and Airbnb plan to collaborate with a trusted intermediary to create a process to identify properties that have been permanently removed on each platform because of repeated violations of their respective community policies," they said in a press release. The information will be made available to each company for them to take the necessary action.
