A few years back, only a few South Korean acts had a chance to reach the charts and make a commercial impact beyond the country. But that's not the case anymore. Popular solo artists and groups often score hit singles and albums in countries that have never had an Asian act chart.Hanteo, a South Korean company that compiles charts and tracks music news, released a Global K-Pop Report to highlight the popularity of K-pop. It lists the top artists and shows how they are selling.According to reports, the report is based on several criteria including chart information, sales data, popularity on social media and views of music videos. The most fascinating section of the report is the ranked list listing the names that have had the greatest influence. It is made up of the most influential and successful K-pop artists.Surprisingly, BTS doesn't appear at No. 1. They are widely considered to be the most successful South Korean band in the world. In many ways they are. However, the septet has not released a new album this year. Their older albums are still in high demand and their latest single Butter has made history across dozens of countries (including the U.S. where it held the Hot 100 for over a month). However, the lack of a full-length with new material is probably why they ended up at No. 2.More from FORBES BTS and SF9, CIX, And Even Of Day: Five of the Most Anticipated K-Pop Boy Band Releases Coming in JulyNCT Dream beats BTS to the top spot with Hot Sauce, their debut full-length album.
