Government procures record 433.24 lakh tonne wheat in 2021-22

WheatMonday's announcement by the Centre stated that it had set a new record for wheat procurement, procuring 433.24 million tonnes of wheat so far during the current 2021-22 rabi season. The government also procured paddy at a record 862.01 million tonne in the current 2020-21 kharif season (October-September),The previous record for wheat procurement was 389.93 Lakh Tonne, which was set in 2020-21 (April-March).The Food Corporation of India (FCI), a state-owned food corporation, and other agencies procure foodgrain at a minimum support price. "Wheat procurement will soon be over. In a virtual media briefing, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey stated that we have broken all records in wheat procurement.FCI Chairman and Managing director Atish Chandra stated that 433.24 million tonnes of wheat have been purchased so far in the 2021-22 rabi season.He said that Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (Rajasthan), Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir had recorded their highest ever performance.He said that 49.16 lakh farmers were able to benefit this year, as opposed to 43.35 lakh in last year.Chandra stated that an all-time record amount of Rs. 84,369.19 Crore was transferred directly to farmers' accounts in India.Similar to paddy procurement, an FCI official stated that the amount purchased rose from 862.01 million tonnes to July 4, 2020-21 kharif marketing period.He said, "The total paddy purchase should reach 900 lakh tonnes."
