Annie Murphy and Mary Hollis Inboden, Kevin Can F**K himself Photo: Jojo Whilden/AMCWe must start by saying that no one condones murder plotting. But here's a tip for Allison McRoberts. Buddy, you don't need to plan so hard to kill Kevin. You can leave him alone for a weekend and he'll do something stupid that will not make it through. This is the theme of Kevin Can F**K Hisself's fourth episode, Live Free Or Die. Patty and Allison travel to Vermont to get Oxypills. This means that her dimwit husband Pete, her father Neil, and friend Neil are all alone. They are free to explore the idea of building an escape room in Kevin's basement. What's the twist? The twist? His friends cheer him on and make him believe that he is the better one. Their escape room situation ends in disaster. Although he might have the unwavering support of Neil and Pete, it is Kevin's lack of Allisons presence that most affects him.AdvertisementLive Free or Die is meant to demonstrate that Kevin cannot function without his wife. She is less of a partner than a mother/caretaker. He doesn't care about her safety or whereabouts and blames her for not answering his calls for half an hour. His concern is not for her, but for his car. He is concerned about his vehicle, not her. After being outsmarted, he just wants to know the location of the vegetable oil that slipped out of their basement window. That was easy.Kevin Can F**K himself is relentless in showing that his titular moron is indeed that. This episode blends the multicam storyline into the broody singlecam to show Patty (and the audience) that Kevin isn't just making Allisons life miserable by being a demanding and lazy man-child. Patty discovers that he is more manipulative than we think. Allison tells Patty that he lost her a job as a paralegal because he believed she was having an affair 60 years ago with her married boss. He pulled a prank, adding sugar to his gas tank. This joke would make a great sitcom. Here, however, we see the real-life consequences of men like Kevin being allowed to indulge in their bizarre, possessive ideas and behaviors. It also means that Live Free Or Die spends a lot of time on the multi-cam plot which reduces the overall energy.Patty and Allison's trip should have occupied more real estate. Their bond continues to melt thanks to some bizarre jokes about Patty's mom. It is clearer why the two women, who lived next to each other for 10 years, were only acquaintances. Although they seem to have different personalities when the show starts, Patty and Allison are able to see their similarities in Live Free Or Die. Both are stuck in Worcester because they don't know any other world. Allison wants to travel more and North Dakota is exotic. Patty, on the other hand, is content in her hometown due to Neil and Kevin. They will burn down the house if they don't take care of these men. Halfway through the run, Kevin Can F**K himself has focused on this second reason. However, it is still a problem that needs to be explored more.G/O Media could be eligible for a World of Warcraft 60 Day Time Card at Eneba. Use the promo code: 20210704What would a world far from the shitty town and shitty families look like? I suspect Allison and Patty don't know the answer. Instead, they have been coping with their frustrations and trauma in isolation. But that's not the end. After driving around trying to get the pills, buying cocaine by accident, and then finally getting burgers for two teenagers, they were stopped by a cop who flagged them down for having reported Kevin's car stolen. This leads to a surprising shift in their relationship. Patty still reels from the fact that Allison is now the one in charge because Allison thought Jason was her stalker. Murphy and Inboden make a great team in the last few minutes of Live Free Or Die, when their characters briefly swap personalities. This leads to Allison blaming Patty for participating in Kevin's schemes and laughing at his jokes. Patty is now able to see the dark side of Kevin's emotional manipulations and has the opportunity to step out of Kevin's world. This leads to Allison revealing her true intentions of killing Kevin, and she finally getting rid of him. This honest exchange will hopefully be a game changer for both the women and the show.Stray observationsEscape Groom may sound like a terrible name for a basement escape room but it's a great alternative title for Kevin Can F**K himself.Allison tells Patty that her father was a police officer. Patty then reveals that her father was a trucker and that her mother died while they were still young. Neil was the one who found her. These are not passing comments. The show explores their childhood and their relationship with their parents. There are only four episodes remaining so there isn't much time to get into the details.Detective Tammy (Candice Koke) knocks on Patty's door to inquire about Terrance, the pharmacist a.k.a. Her recently arrested drug supplier. He was not happy with the phone call Patty made to him.Patty, as she describes why most places are so bad: North Dakota has snakes. In New Tricks, Allison stated that Kevin would find her and bring back her if she left. Live Free or Die attempts to emphasize this fact in the final scene with the police officers. In various dialogues, Allison tells Patty with conviction that he must pick up his calls or she can travel more. These are signs of emotional and mental torture, even though he does not physically abuse her.I'm here, ending this recap with a wish to have some flashbacks that help me understand Allison's relationship with her husband, who was egotistical and narcissistic for a decade, before finally breaking down. What about personal trauma? Social pressure? Kevin was a decent man at one time. (Probably not).
