Players from all leagues were honored once more for their efforts in the 2021 campaign. As a result of a fan vote, MVP candidates Shohei Ohtani Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Ronald Acuna Jr., Fernando Tatis Jr., and Ronald Acuna Jr. were all named All Star starters last week. The Sunday selections of the Commissioner's Office and player ballots were used to determine the pitchers and reserves.Ohtani was also the first player to be named All-Star in MLB history as both a pitcher or hitter. These players will be competing at Coors Field Tuesday, July 12 in the latest Midsummer Classic.American LeagueStarters (Vote percentage)C: Salvador Perez (62%)1B: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (75 percent), Toronto Blue Jays2B: Marcus Semien (Toronto Blue Jays) (54 percent).3B: Rafael Devers (Boston Red Sox, 61 percent).SS: Xander Bogarts, Boston Red Sox (42%).OF: Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels), (19 percent).OF: Aaron Judge (13 percent), New York YankeesOF: Teoscar Hernandez (Toronto Blue Jays) (12 percent).DH: Shohei Ottani, Los Angeles Angels (63%)ReservesJose Altuve, Houston AstrosCarlos Correa, Houston AstrosJose Ramirez, ClevelandNelson Cruz, Minnesota TwinsJ.D. Walker Buehler, however, should be the most disappointed about not being selected for an All-Star team. The right-hander is 8-1 and has a 2.35 ERA with 0.9 WHIP. He excelled in control, achieving a 4.59 strikeouts-to-walk ratio. There are many worthy pitchers in NL, and it is difficult to replace any of them. But Buehler has been a consistent player for the past few seasons and was a crucial part of the Dodgers' win to the World Series.Buehler deserves to be recognized for his continued success at this level, not just in this season.Omar Narvaez C, Milwaukee BrewersJ.T. Realmuto is a more well-known catcher, but Omar Narvaez has surpassed him this season. On Sunday, the Brewers' backstop had a.303 average and.395 on base percentage. He also had seven home runs in 63 games. After hitting.176 in 2020's shorter campaign, it's quite an impressive turnaround.Narvaez may be enjoying a breakout season at the age of 29, but he deserves credit for the Brewers' 51/34 start to 2021.Emmanuel Clase RP, ClevelandEmmanuel Clase, another player not well-known outside of diehard fan base, has really made waves in his first season in the majors. The Astros lost Sunday's game to the Astros reliever, but he still holds a 1.01 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 35 innings. The 23-year old has taken over Cleveland's closer position and has 11 saves for the year.Clase did not pitch in 2020, and had only 23.1 innings in major league baseball when he entered the year. However, he has proven to be one the most valuable relievers in baseball, and has helped his team stay competitive in the AL Central.Yuli Gurriel 1B, Houston AstrosJose Altuve or Carlos Correa may have taken Yuli Gurriel’s place among the All-Star reserves. However, that doesn't mean it's right.Gurriel is enjoying the best season of all his career, with a.322 average in batting after Sunday's win. He also added 10 home runs and 53 RBI. Gurriel has shown that he is capable of being hot for long periods, hitting.344 in March and.366 June.Gurriel is a key player on one of the most successful teams in baseball and deserves MVP consideration.Gurriel will be the replacement for anyone who is unable to attend the All-Star Game due to injury.
