Biden's approval rating holds steady at 60 per cent as majority backs handling of pandemic

(Getty Images)As the US celebrates Fourth of July, President Joe Biden is gaining the approval of over half of Americans for his overall job performance.The Hill/HarrisX has released a new poll on Thursday showing that Mr Biden is supported by 60 percent of registered US voters. This is only slightly lower than the 61 percent approval recorded in the same poll one month ago.His approval rating is buoyed by Mr Biden's handling of Covid-19, which almost seven out ten voters (68%) supported.In the poll, the president received high marks for the economy with 59 per cent of respondents saying that they approve of Mr Biden's efforts to manage recovery from the economic crisis last year.Despite the constant criticisms from GOP lawmakers regarding a surge in migrants seeking asylum at the US border with Mexico, Mr Biden is still above water on the immigration issue with the support 53 percent of the respondents to the survey.Hills Survey included responses from 950 registered voters with a margin error of 3.18 percent.These poll results were somewhat similar to those of a Fox News survey that was released last week. It found that Mr Biden had a positive overall approval rating of 53% and broad support (64%-34% respectively) for his handling the Covid-19 pandemic.Fox News poll found that Mr Biden had the overwhelming support of his party and the approval of one fifth of GOP respondents.
