A COVID-19 vaccine is making its way into the animal kingdom. It's currently being tested at a California Zoo.Oakland Zoo officials announced this week that they received a large shipment of experimental 'rona jabs manufactured by Zoetis... who presumably prepared their recipe specifically for wild animals.OZ claims it has already given the vaccine to many of their furry friends, including their lions and tigers as well as bears and ferrets. Yes, indeed!Zoetis gave 11,000 doses to the zoo as a first recipient. This is a donation, BTW -- at least for the time being -- very generous of Zoetis.According to the USDA, this vaccine was first tested on minks. However, it can be used in a case-by–case manner. Oakland is clearly inoculating all their animals en masse. Although it is not clear if additional animal types will be added, you can assume they will if the trial runs well. This is huge news, not only because many animals at zoos have caught the virus -- including primates and tigers at the SD Zoo (which received a small shipment Zoetis earlier in the year to test for the latter), but also because it could have implications for dogs/cats.
