The book explores the impossibilities of women and men's expectations, the inexplicable nature of marriage secrets, national obsession with dead white girls and the wide gulf between private and public truth. But few filmmakers have done it better than Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. This adaptation is way too ambitious on every level and keeps going for more. Everything from the brightly colored costumes (by Catherine Martin), the cool soundtrack and the tongue-twisting delivery the Bard's best lines seems to be a more-is more approach. It is the raw passion between the star-crossed lovers that makes it work, played by Leonardo DiCaprio & Claire Danes at their respective teen-idol peak. It is a little too cheesy. Yes. Hunt for WilderpeopleTaika Waititi's final New Zealand-set film follows Ricky Baker (Julian Dennison), a spiky, determined teenager who is pursued by a hardworking but well-meaning child service agent. He finds himself and Tupac alone in the New Zealand bush, with Sam Neill (cantankerous, reluctant carer), and ends up on the run. Dennison is an amazing actor. His toughness, sweetness, and indignant speech make him one of the most beloved and beloved teenage characters in recent history. And Neill's "Uncle" Hec, a gruff and stern character, traces the "taciturn old man" arc of how he cares for the "scrapy kid" with such nuance that it feels like it is being rewritten. Waititi was right to welcome Rachel House into the MCU as Ragnarok's "villain". She almost steals the show, however, as Rachel House, an utter genius. ("I am like the Terminator. You look like Sarah Connor. "In the first one, before she could do any chin-ups.The story is a sometimes tragic tale of coming-of age for the main characters. It also reveals that people can do more when they are allowed in. It's hilarious, and more importantly, it's funny. Directed by the Wachowskis, Bound is a slick neonoir thriller about an ex-con (played by Gina Gershon), and a mobster’s girlfriend (played by Jennifer Tilly). They fall into a dangerous affair and then into a more dangerous scheme to steal money from the Mafia. Bound is a small film compared to the epic, effects-heavy films the sisters were known for, but it makes up for it with style, swagger and seductive charm.How to watch Bound on HuluAre you looking for a different approach to neo-noir, then this is the place. Hulu also streams Robert Altman's unique The Long Goodbye.5. 5.While Die Hard is a Christmas movie as some of its fans would like to remind you each December, its appeal lasts all year. Bruce Willis gives John McClane a manly charm, as he is a New York City police officer caught up in a terrorist plot at an office holiday party. It's Alan Rickman, the wicked and scornful Hans Gruber who almost steals the show. Although John McTiernan’s action movie has been adapted into many sequels and numerous knockoffs over the years, few can match or surpass the 1988 original for pure, simple fun. Hulu also streams The Terminator.6. 6.Fast Color, Julia Hart's film, is set in a dystopian future where there is drought and focuses on three members of a special family: Ruth (Gugu Mbatha–Raw), Bo (Lorraine Toussaint), Lila (Saniyya Sydney). It's not your average sci-fi superhero movie. It is less concerned with explosive action or complex mythology than it is in nuanced characterwork, charting the family’s emotional journeys and helping them to heal their bonds and harness their gifts for good. These are refreshingly different in a sea filled with similar-y blockbusters about great power and great responsibility.How to watch: Fast Color streaming on HuluAre you looking for emotional, grounded sci-fi? Hulu also streams Arrival.7. ParasiteBong Joon Ho's "Parasite" is a shapeshifter. Just when you think that you have it under control, it slips through your fingers and transforms into something completely different. It's a noir comedy, a thriller and horror film. The best part about it is just sitting back and waiting to see what new colors it takes on.The one thing that remains constant through all of these twists and turns is that we are in the capable hands of a master. Every frame, line and twist of Parasite feels thoughtful and planned. It never feels artificial or rushed. The twin engines that drive the whole thing forward are empathy, rage specifically, and class rage. This is directed not at the 1%, although they get a healthy skewering, but at the whole rotten system that makes this story possible. Parasite is among the most engaging movies of recent memory. Akira is not only one of the greatest anime stories ever told; it's also an excellent choice for any "greatest scifi of all times" roundup. Based on the manga by Katsuhiro Okumo (who also directed), the story follows Shotaro Kaneda as he struggles to save Tetsuo Shima, his telekinetic friend, from those who want to exploit these abilities. The story eventually becomes a larger, cyberpunk-fueled tale set against the backdrop a dystopian "Neo-Tokyo". Talking to Beale StreetBarry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk is based on James Baldwin's novel. It is a film about how people view each other. The film is intimate and touching in the way it connects so many characters from different years and countries.The story is about racial injustice. It concerns a young Black man (Stephan James), who is sent to prison for a false accusation. His fiance (Kiki Lane) finds out that she is pregnant. The film doesn't shy away from showing the ugly side of their ordeal. Its insistence on joy is what is most remarkable about the film. Beale Street is not only about the hardships of life but also the small and big blessings that make life worthwhile. Hulu also streams I Am Not Your Negro.10. 10.The Virgin Suicides can be seen as a falling, as the narrators do. They fall under the spell of five untouchable, but beautiful, teenage girls from 1970s Michigan. Then, they are haunted by the unknowable tragedies that befell them for decades. Sofia Coppola, the writer-director, catches what the teenage boys fail to see even with their intense scrutiny of the Lisbons. These questions are not able to provide satisfying answers. The questions paint a revealing portrait of growing up as a female in a world that is more interested in projecting its fears and fantasies onto you than trying to see you for the person you are.How to watch: The Virgin Suicides streaming on HuluAre you ready for another classic teen girl movie? Heathers can also be streamed on Hulu.11. Palm SpringsPalm Springs, 2020 was the year that most movies were delayed due to the pandemic. Yet, there was a film, a new movie, and a festival darling about people going quiet insane with monotony, losing control of time, and this movie.Max Barbakow's film features a cheerfully nihilistic Andy Samberg. Cristin Milioti, who is at her best, portrays Samberg as his ever-frenzied companion in "one those infinite time loop scenarios you might have heard about." Andy Siara and Cristin Milioti's chemistry makes the script sing, leaving plenty of room for J.K. Simmons’ sinister interludes as well as just enough time travel interrogation. This is a funny, original comedy that's worth repeating over and over again. Butch Cassidy and The Sundance KidButch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid have a reputation for being a classic. Although the story centers on two outlaws who are on the run following a train heist that went wrong, it provides plenty of excitement. But what makes the film truly special is the chemistry between the two leads: Paul Newman, the charismatic Butch Cassidy, and Robert Redford, the sardonic Sundance Kid. Their friendship, fueled by the witty dialogue of screenwriter William Goldman was a model for many buddy films and is still irresistible to this day. Robin Wright and Cary Elwes star as the charming Westley and Buttercup, staring as star-crossed lovers. They must overcome countless sword fights, Rodents with Unusual Sizes, an evil count and even death to find their happily ever after. Hulu also has Shrek available for streaming.14. 14.Ah, the movie about fast zombies. 28 Days Later is a film that has a lot to offer. It's the best result of a collaboration between Danny Boyle, Alex Garland and the writer. Also, it's the most creditable movie for bringing back the zombie horror genre. Robert Kirkman's comic The Walking Dead came out a year later. The thing most people remember is 28 Days Later, a fast-moving new breed of zombie. It's terrifying and rooted in deeply disturbing fiction, especially in 2021. A global pandemic could trigger a new type of zombie apocalypse. A.R. Jennifer's BodyAlthough Jennifer's Body received a cold reception when it was released in 2009, it was actually a movie that was well ahead of its time. The feminist classic, directed by Karyn Kusama with Diablo Cody as its writer, stars Megan Fox (as Megan Fox) and Amanda Seyfried (as their teenage best friends). When the former is possessed by a demon that starts killing local boys, it's both creepy and hilarious. Alternately funny and creepy ("You're murdering people! "No, I'm not killing boys" is funny, but Jennifer's Body is full of heartbreak and sexual abuse.How to watch Jennifer's Body streaming on HuluYou want more from Diablo Cody Hulu also has Young Adult streaming.16. FargoJoel and Ethan Coen's Fargo is still loved 25 years later. There's even a TV series trying to recreate its magic. With its mixture of bleak humor and unexpected warmth, the original is still a great show. Frances McDormand plays Marge Gunderson in Fargo. She is a small-town police chief who investigates a bizarrely botched kidnapping by William H. Macy (a desperate used car seller) and two career criminals, Steve Buscemi (and Peter Stormare). You will groan at the grisly killings (one involves an electric wood chipper), and laugh at the odd details. Maybe you'll realize that Marge is right, there's more to life than just a little bit of money.Fargo streaming on Hulu.Do you like your murders but with a little bit of humor? Hulu also streams The Nice Guys.17. MLK / FBIMLK/FBI is directed by Sam Pollard, and produced by Benjamin Hedin. It examines the disturbing relationship between its title subjects and the FBI's constant harassment of Martin Luther King Jr. during his civil rights activism days. J. Edgar Hoover and FBI spied upon King and exposed his personal affairs in order to discredit him and thereby destroy civil rights movement.While the full story is yet to be told, more documents will be released in 2027. But Pollard's film puts you on edge and exposes the insidious acts of institutions that are supposed protect and uphold American ideals. Galaxy QuestGene Roddenberry would be proud of this loving parody and tribute to Star Trek's storytelling tropes. Galaxy Quest is the story of the cast of the cult sci fi TV serial. It features a group of people from faraway places who believe that the show is documentary footage of their heroics, making them the last hope for the adoring (and admirably literal-minded!) aliens.The film features Sigourney Weber, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell in their first roles. Rainn Wilson, Justin Long, and Rainn Wilson all star in the movie. It is a charming and sly script that tells the story of how you fall in love with a fictional place.
