What do 12- to 18-year-olds think about sustainability, sharing experiences, and the future of tourism? A select group of young people from all over the globe will attend the 'Global Youth Tourism Summit' to find the answers.
The 1st Global Youth Tourism Summit will take place in Sorrento (Italy), 23-25 August 2021. It will offer young people an opportunity to participate in a unique experience that aims to encourage youth involvement in tourism and to empower the next generation to drive a more sustainable future.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) organizes the summit in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism Italy, the Italian National Tourism Board and other partners. It was placed by the Italian government as part of its G20 presidency.
UNWTO is joining the UN family to recognize the important contribution youth make to the development of societies.
Zurab Pololikashvili, UNWTO Secretary General, stated that children and youth are not only the future leaders of our society, but also important stakeholders for the present. We can empower and include them today, he said. He said that youth are the future leaders and it was crucial for them to be involved in shaping the global vision of the future.
Participants will be able to adopt their own declaration about the future of tourism through a UNWTO General Assembly model. This document will be presented to the UNWTO General Assembly 24th session (12-15 October 2021 Marrakesh (Morocco)).
It will feature a variety of interactive activities, as well as leading global personalities who will share their experiences in tourism and other areas like music, sports, gastronomy and the film industry.
