Good news for tourism on the Caribbean island of Saba

Saba, the Dutch Caribbean island, known as "unspoiled queen", southwest of St. Maarten, received some positive news last month, following the reopening of its border on May 1st and the lifting of quarantine requirements to fully vaccinated travellers.Saba was designated a Level 1 destination by the U.S. State Department. It is recommended that travelers "exercise usual precautions". There are four levels; the highest recommends against travel to a country.Saba's adult population has more than 85% coverage. The five-square-mile island, which is just five miles in size, has increased airlift via SXM Airways to St. Maarten. Winair also offers two flights per day via St. Maarten. Visitors can explore new hiking trails or dive sites on the small, five-mile island.Malinda hassell was appointed the island's director of tourism. After a 46-year tenure, Glenn Holm, the current director of tourism, will be retiring in August.Hassell was born and raised on the islands and takes over her position after having served as the marketing manager for Tourism Corp. Bonaire and communications manager at Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association. She is also the destination marketing manager at Discover Dominica Authority.Hassell stated, "I look forward contributing to the success of Saba’s sustainable tourism development," Hassell added.
