NBA Draft 2021 Rumors: Cavs' No. 3 Pick Drawing Interest from 'Plenty of' Suitors

AP Photo/Tony Dejak. FileAccording to reports, the Cleveland Cavaliers have "plenty" of potential suitors if they are willing to trade No. 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft on July 29, 2019.Chris Fedor from Cleveland.com reported that there have been "cursory discussions" between the Cavs' and these teams but not "anything substantive."After LeBron James' departure in 2018, the Cavaliers were set to undergo a rebuilding phase. This was after four consecutive NBA Finals appearances. However, the lack of progress in climbing up the Eastern Conference standings has become a concern.Cleveland posted records of 19-63, 19-46 in the previous two seasons. However, Cleveland showed only modest improvement during the 2020-21 season with a record of 22-50, which missed the play-in tournament by 11 points. In May, Koby Altman, Cavs general manager, expressed his confidence in the team's plans. There is optimism about where the franchise is at this point. We set out to build this franchise through the draft and create a talented core of players. This year was not only about development but also about evaluation. We were able to answer many questions about the excitement of this young core. The future looks really, really bright. We must now add to that talent. There are many talented prospects in the 2021 draft class. While there is an argument to trade down to acquire more assets, there is still risk of losing one of the top three prospects, Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham or Jalen Green.Mobley would not be the ideal fit, since the Cavaliers already have Jarrett Allen in the center. However, either Cunningham nor Green could provide much-needed support on the wing.Fedor said that Cleveland would be looking for a "massive deal" to move the No. 3.The Cavs have some foundational pieces in place, with Allen, Darius Garland and Collin Sexton, so they can move forward with rebuilding.Altman and Co. will have to decide if a high-end prospect such as Green is more important than what they would receive in a trade.
