Sources -- Bethune-Cookman to hire ex-NBA star Reggie Theus as head men's basketball coach, AD

Sources told ESPN's The Undefeated that Reggie Theus, a former NBA star, will be appointed the athletic director at Bethune-Cookman University and men's basketball coach next week.Theus will replace Ryan Ridder, Bethune-Cookman's male basketball coach. Ridder resigned to take the same job at University of Tennessee Martin on March 30.Theus previously coached at New Mexico State between 2005-07, compiling an 41-23 record as well as one NCAA tournament bid. While coaching the Cal State Northridge Matadors, he was 94-128.Two-time NBA All-Star, Theus has been a head coach for the Sacramento Kings as well as the G League Los Angeles D-Fenders. Theus is also a Big3 coach and will likely continue to coach this season.Bethune-Cookman University, a historically Black college in Daytona Beach, Florida and a member the Southwestern Athletic Conference, is Bethune-Cookman University. Bethune-Cookman cancelled the rest of its 2020-21 athletic seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred on October 27, 2020.When the Wildcats last played in basketball during the 2019-2020 season, their men's basketball team had a record of 16-14.Theus will be the athletic director for football, basketball, baseball and women’s bowling. She will also oversee softball, softball, golf, softball and tennis. She will also push for fundraising.
