This realization took me 60 years, even though I could have known it all along. It is possible that other readers have had the same experience. I am posting it to find out if this is true.I instantly begin to create images of the scenes when I read any book with a plot. This could be a novel (all for nothing by Walter Kempowski) or a non-scholarly text that contains locations. Davis' book is very detailed and Ive been to some of the locations he mentions like Everest and Darjeeling so it is easy to make up the details. In the case of novels, however, I find that I can form mental images of the landscapes, houses and other locations described in the book from the moment I start reading it. For example, when I read Gatsby, I can picture the curtained living area of Tom and Daisy's home. Even though it is not detailed. When I say "see", I mean I see where the sofas, tables, chairs and tables are located. Bloom gives his cat (mrgnkao) a meal. When Bloom feeds his cat (mrgnkao), I can picture what his kitchen looks and feel even though it is not written down. This is true throughout a novel. My imaginings are not related to the author's, but I find it impossible to read a book without thinking about this.It is interesting that even though the author describes what people look like, my imaginations are much less vivid. Jerry used to say this to me as a brain teaser. Imagine a face that you haven't seen before. A novel can make it difficult for me to imagine a face. Although I can picture Tom and Daisy's living room and house, I cannot imagine Daisy or Tom. Although I know Anna Karenina and Vronsky are beautiful, all I can picture is a dress or uniform.Voices are no exception. But, I can find it difficult to watch a movie that is made from a book if I don't like the sound of the voices. For years, I was a Peanuts fan and kept a scrapbook of every Sunday comic strip. The voices of the characters were so different to what I imagined that they made it into a cartoon, I couldn't watch it.This doesn't mean that I have to watch a movie before reading the book. For example, The Last Picture Show. I automatically translate the movie voices into those of the characters in my novel. It's all very bizarre to me. Sometimes I feel like it is impossible to read a book while simultaneously watching a movie in your head. Does this happen to other people?p.s. This is not Charlie Brown's sound. This is not Charlie Brown's sound.
