Hotel Cancels Award Stay Because They Found Someone Better To Rent Rooms To

If the travel agency can sell your travel reservation to another person for enough money, it is not guaranteed. Hilton cancelled all summer reservations at its Hawaiian property. This left guests with very few options, as the hotel only had one chance to sell. Hyatt has now faced a similar situation, but Hyatt did more to help the guests who were bumped.Alila Ventana Big Sur was booked by a customer on points in September for their 25th Anniversary. However, the hotel cancelled their reservation because they received a better deal through a group booking. The property called to inform the guest that their reservation was cancelled due to the fact that someone had purchased the property.Only compensation was an offer for different dates. The 25th anniversary trip included flights and other hotels. However, the only compensation was being able to book an award-winning stay at Alila Ventana. They were able to get a great deal. The awards here are 30,000 points per person (Hyatt Category 7) but the property operates as an all-inclusive resort with rates of $2400 per night.Credit: Alila Ventana Big SurI reached out to Hyatt on June 21 and got in touch with them. Although they assured me that they would make every effort to ensure the guest is well, they didn't give any assurances about whether or not an award booking (or paid stay) will be honored by the property. We were able to determine that this caused a few transient reservations to be affected. This is not a common trend at Hyatt hotels. We encourage guests to feel confident about their Hyatt hotel reservations. We will work with Hyatt hotels to make sure that guests and members are taken care of and accommodated in the most appropriate manner. It wasn't something I discussed with the guest. However, two other people on social media also pushed for Hyatt here. According to the guest, they were offered different dates in exchange for staying with them. They were offered an additional night in a room (5 nights) instead of the standard 4.Upgraded roomAlthough they were happy with the result, I think their stay should have been more enjoyable.I've been to hotels that preferred to rent the rooms to others. They reached out to me and offered me a great deal. They were also open to negotiations. A Sheraton in Thailand offered me a point stay and paid me to be seated in a Westin suite. They also covered meals.
