Friday's Gulf of Mexico fire started after an underwater pipe exploded. The internet was flooded with horror videos of the flames exploding from the ocean.Mexican-state-owned oil company Petrleos Mexicanos (also known as Pemex) said that a gas leak was found in a 12-inch submarine pipe near an oil platform in Ku-Maloob-Zaap. According to the company, firefighters were able extinguish the fiery, swirling mass of water at 10:45 am. There were no injuries.Executive director of Mexico's oil safety regulatory body ASEA, ngel Carrizales tweeted that the leak "didn't generate any spillage," but didn’t specify what was on fire.Although the cause of this incident remains under investigation, Twitter users have their own theories.
